The Vision
Waterford Suir Valley Railway Company CLG was established to preserve and promote Waterford’s rich railway heritage. The aim to develop and operate a 10km section of the abandoned Waterford to Dungarvan Railway line from Kilmeadan Station to Bilberry, Waterford City as a tourist attraction. The vision is that the area through which the railway travels will become a linear park and the railway will service other attractions along the route, eventually extending in to Waterford City and operating with a steam engine.
The Board

Waterford Suir Valley Railway is a social enterprise with a voluntary board of directors overseeing the governance of the project.
Maria Kyte has managed the development and operation of the project since 2001. There are four participants on TUS and Community Employment scheme. There are four full time and one part time staff. Five seasonal staff join the crew on a part time basis during the summer season. All the train drivers work on a voluntary basis with a minimum of three on duty each day. The operation is self funding. it does not receive any regular funding support from national or local governments other than once off grants for specific projects now and again.
Waterford Suir Valley Railway is regulated and licensed by the Commission for Railway Regulation. The company is a registered charity CHY 13857. The company is compliant with the Charities Governance Code and Charities Regulatory Authority.
