Whistlestop Café
The Whistlestop Café at Kilmeadan Station is operated by the Waterford Suir Valley Railway crew. It opened in 2019 to provide welcome refreshments for railway customers, along with visitors to Waterford Greenway. It is also now a very popular place for locals in the Kilmeadan area and surrounding villages to meet for a cuppa and a catch up.
Home Baked Treats and Local Flavours
The delicious home baked cakes and other treats provided by local baker, Annette Atkins, owner of Annette’s Bakehouse are served in the Café. Paired with a cup of Waterford’s Blue Butterfly Coffee, you are in for a treat. The coffee is delicious hot or in an iced coffee.
Other menu items include specialty teas, smoothies, cold refreshments, fresh or toasted sandwiches, snacks, ice cream and the famous “99”. Groups can book their refreshments in advance. When you book ask about a special group rate to include a trip on the train with Annette’s delicious scones with Kerrygold butter, jam and cream and a cup of tea or coffee, either before or after your trip. Gluten free diets are catered for.
A small selection of Waterford Suir Valley Railway souvenirs are on sale in the shop along with trains and pocket money toys.
A Perfect Pitstop on the Greenway
It is the perfect stop when walking or cycling Waterford Greenway. There are picnic tables outside and indoor seating in the converted Mark 2 Irish Rail Carriage. There is bike parking, toilet facilities and free WiFi at Kilmeadan Station.
Relax over a hot drink or Ice Cream, make new friends and watch the world go by on the railway and on Waterford Greenway. The café is open for the 2025 Season from 10am to 5pm daily.
